INGLOT is one of those brands where I’ve tried very few products, but I’ve loved every single one. So, I was excited to receive the brand new INGLOT Matte Lipsticks & Colour Play Lipliners in these stunning bright shades, which are some of my favorites. The lip liners and lipsticks are a perfect color match for each other, leaving no time wasted on blending color together!
First off, we have the Matte Lipsticks. This new formulation contains vitamin E, macadamia oil, and avocado oil to moisturize lips. This matte formula is by far the most matte lipstick I have ever tried! I received three shades:
- 422: blue-based purple (reminds me a bit of OCC Rollergirl Lip Tar)
- 423: bubblegum pink (similar to MAC Candy Yum Yum, just darker/not neon)
- 424: hot tomato-coral (lighter, more orange than MAC Lady Danger)
The formula of this lipsticks is pretty dry, but they have a nice silicone feeling that helps them glide a bit smoother. They don’t feel as silicone-y as MAC’s Matte lipstick formulation, but I find that these can last a bit longer. These lipsticks are super pigmented (as are the liners) and I didn’t need to layer on more than 1 coat at all!
The perfect accompaniment to these lipsticks are the Colour Play Lipliners, which are available in 4 shades. I have 3 of them to show you today, that match my lipsticks exactly!
The flash in the above photo helps show the colors a bit better- as you can see, an identical shade for each of the aforementioned lipsticks.
Here are the Colour Play Lipliners swatched. The numbering on these differs from the lipstick, which makes it a bit confusing. That’s the only thing I don’t like, but I love these liners.
- 311: matches Matte Lipstick in 424
- 313: matches Matte Lipstick in 423
- 314: matches Matte Lipstick in 422
The formula of these liners is great. It’s not too waxy that it’s impossible to glide on the lips, but just enough to really help the lip color stick. The best way I’ve found to apply the lipliner is to put on a balm before applying makeup, so your lips are moisturized. Once I’m ready to apply my lip color, I blot off all of the excess balm so my lips are mostly dry. This helps the lipliner glide on easily! I find that adding the lipliner underneath can make the lipstick last for another 2 hours or so. These lip combinations can get an easy 4-6 hours of wear with drinking. If you eat, it definitely wears away, just like any other lipstick! If you want a crisp edge, I like to apply the lipliner after lipstick just around the edges to make the lines even & make sure the entire lip is covered. Plus, these liners have built-in sharpeners!
I swatched these shades below, with the lipliner underneath the lipstick, since they’re the same exact shade.
The purple is definitely the least wearable combination of them all. It had the tendency to show my lip color around the perimeter of my lips, which I think can be disguised with a layer of concealer that isn’t too heavy.
It does look really nice & different. I do notice that it makes your teeth look pretty yellow, though. I never let that determine what lipstick I wear, though! This color is great for editorial shoots, or even women with darker skin tones. I love the look of bold purple lips on someone with a very deep skin tone.
The pink combo is definitely the most wearable for anyone. I love this combo because it is bold, but not as bold as MAC Candy Yum Yum, since that one is neon. The color applies really well and I think it would be very flattering on any skin tone.
I think I’d say I’ve been wearing the pink one the most- which is interesting, because orange is my go-to!
This red-orange shade is very interesting, because it isn’t like many lipsticks I’ve tried. It’s a very bright tomato-coral that doesn’t make teeth look more yellow, which I like. I wouldn’t call it a teeth-whitening shade, as I don’t have pearly white teeth because I don’t whiten them, but this doesn’t make them look as yellow as the other two. I think orangey red shades are perfect for spring and summer because of how warm they are, save the blue-based reds for the holidays!
This red is a classic look, for sure! I think it will flatter a lot of people, no matter what skin tone.
I am really impressed with these lip shades! I really hope they expand this line. I would love to see a bright neon orange (of course I would), because I don’t often find *truly* matte orange lipsticks, they’re all cream finishes. The formula on both the liners and lipsticks is amazing, and definitely a product Mr. Inglot would be proud of. The lipsticks are even available in their Freedom System, as shades 501, 514, and 515 for $9.
The INGLOT Matte Lipstick retails for $15, and the Colour Play Lipliner retails for $12. Both products are available now on inglotusa.com.
