Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette Review and Swatches
Ever since I saw promotional images for UD's new Naked Basics palette, I knew I had to get my hands on it. Finally, after waiting for it to be in store for a while, I gave in and ordered it online a few weeks ago from ULTA. This palette features 6 shadows, all of which are matte except one, Venus, which is a shimmery shade that they call "demi-matte"This palette has gotten a lot of mixed reviews. People either love it or they hate it, and I for one, LOVE it. I have been craving more matte shadows lately, and with the shortage of them in the original naked palettes, this is a great add-on. I personally like to use the entire palette in one cohesive look, but all of these shades will work well with any shadows.Venus is a pale champagne shadow that has a shimmery, but not glittery finish.Foxy is a yellow toned cream colored eyeshadow.Walk of Shame is a pink toned cream colored eyeshadow.Naked 2 is a taupe eyeshadow.Faint is a medium toned brown eyeshadow.Crave is a nearly black charcoal shade. The main criticism on these shades is that Foxy and Walk of Shame are classified as identical. While they are a very similar light cream shade, The undertones are completely different. Foxy has yellow undertones, while Walk of Shame has pink undertones. I do agree that this palette could have a little more variation (maybe a darker color in between Naked 2 and Faint), but I still really like it.All of the shades are very nicely pigmented. Foxy is very similar to my skin tone, so it did blend in a little bit! I really like all of the shades together. I have the most issues with Crave, as it is very dark in comparison to the rest of the eyeshadows so I find it harder to work with, since it is nearly black. I'm still experimenting, though! As far as texture goes, they are all very smooth and buttery feeling. I was shocked when I swatches these because they felt almost like a cream. I am impressed! My typical look with this palette features each of the shadows. First, I apply Foxy and Walk of Shame blended together from lid to brow bone. Then, I highlight my inner corners with Venus. I apply Faint in the crease, using Naked 2 as a blending color as I blend it out. I add just a touch of Crave in my outer corner/v area, being sure to blend very well!
