Next month Too Faced is launching their Chocolate Bon Bons Eye Shadow Collection featuring 16 matte & shimmer eyeshadows with their famous chocolate scent. I was lucky enough to try & receive this palette for free thanks to Ipsy OS, which I’m lucky to be a part of- but I’ve only been playing with it for a few days.
At first glance, the palette looks a bit tacky to me because I have a sleeker taste, but it does look like some sort of cute chocolate bar. I’ve been lovingly referring to this palette as Polly Pocket makeup. I love the fact that the palette is made of a nice metal tin- it would be hard to break and won’t get messy!
Inside there are 16 matte and shimmery shadows infused with antioxidant-rich cocoa powder. There are 14 brand new shades and 2 cult favorite shades. I wish they were all the same size, even though the 2 rectangular colors will probably be the most used, it just looks inconsistent to me. I would have preferred 2 larger hearts on one side, with the other 14 hearts on the other to look more cohesive.
The eyeshadows included are (all descriptions I made up):
- Almond Truffle: matte medium cool toned brown
- Satin Sheets: pink and gold shimmer
- Sprinkles: pale pink with gold shimmer
- Molasses Chip: light, shimmery bronze
- Malted: matte warm dark brown with pink shimmer
- Cashew Chew: light beige with champagne shimmer
- Cotton Candy: shimmery blue toned bubble gum pink
- Café Au Lait: shimmery warm silver with silver shimmer
- Bordeaux: matte red-toned dark brown
- Mocha: matte warm khaki
- Black Currant: shimmery dark purple with magenta shimmer
- Dark Truffle: shimmery dark brown with gold & pink shimmer
- Pecan Praline: matte beige with light silver shimmer
- Totally Fetch: shimmery blue toned magenta
- Earl Grey: shimmery dark green grey
- Divinity: matte vanilla with white shimmer
There are a few names that don’t fit in with the others, but two of them are because they’re repromotes. I think Earl Grey doesn’t really fit in with the colors of the palette, and, even though I’m not a fan of the pinks and purples, you can at least form a full look with them. But, Earl Grey seems to be the awkward stepbrother that doesn’t fit in. I feel like even the matte shadows have the slightest bit of shimmer that goes undetectable on the eye. The shadows are buttery smooth, though, so the mattes can get chalky.
I did some pretty messy swatches. They’re all nicely pigmented. But, as you can see I think Earl Grey doesn’t belong. I’m not a huge fan of the pinks, but they fit in cohesively with the palette. I think they all apply well enough, none of them are lacking in enough pigmentation to show up on the eye.
The only look I’ve tried so far is the one above. I couldn’t get good photos for some reason, so this will have to do. I used Almond Truffle all over the lid, Cashew Chew in the inner corner, Mocha in the crease, and Bordeaux in the crease to darken it up. Then I used Mocha and Bordeaux on my lower lash line.
I think this makes for a sexy grunge look that you wouldn’t expect to find in this palette. I really like how the look turned out- maybe I’ll do a tutorial eventually!
This palette launches on December 8th, 2015 for $49 on TooFaced.com. If you like the pink shadows I’d recommend you to buy it- but, if you’re like me and probably won’t use them, I’d skip it for an all-neutral palette. I was surprised I could make a look I liked a lot with these shadows, though, so I’ll continue to use it.
