Studio Gear Cosmetics recently launched a Holiday Smokey Eye Palette and I was sent it to review. I haven’t tried any of Studio Gear’s products yet, but I have heard of the brand, so I was excited to try something! This palette is intended to create an easy smokey eye with a bit of gold, and it even includes a blush!

Something that kind of confuses me about this palette is that the image pasted to the top of the palette lists the eyeshadow names, and the silver and black (frost and coal) seem to be switched in the palette because it says coal is in the lower left corner. I think that this should have been double-checked because it doesn’t make sense. I also wish there was a mirror instead of the “get the look” image that could easily be on the back of the package, where the ingredients are.
Anyways, the palette includes all shimmery shades, which I’m really not a fan of, honestly. I think all eye looks need a matte shadow in them for dimension. I am partial to all-matte eyes, but I always like shimmer on the lid only, not in my crease. In this palette, all of the eyeshadows are shimmery and the blush is even shimmery! I think the black should be matte at the very least.
When swatched, the shadows aren’t that pigmented. Frost is probably the most pigmented, along with Snowy Glow blush. Platinum isn’t very pigmented, it’s pretty patchy. Glimmer has an even pigmentation, it just isn’t very bright for a gold eyeshadow. The black, Coal, has a decent amount of pigmentation, but on the eyes it doesn’t look black- but it has a lot of glitter. The blush has really great pigment and even has gold shimmer in it.
After applying all of these products at once, I didn’t think that the blush looked that great with a smoky eye. I think a better blush color would have been something matte and more neutral because the eyes are smoky. I think this palette is good in theory, but it honestly just didn’t do anything for me, personally.

This definitely doesn’t look or perform like a $40 palette. I agree, I wish there were mattes included, a full shimmery eye look is so outdated.
