As you may know I went to FIDM for college and have my degree in Beauty Industry Merchandising and Marketing. I thought I’d do a video explaining some general things about the school and my opinion on it. This Australian Share Prices mainly includes some of my projects, living in dorm apartments, and more. I hope this helps someone, but let me know if you have any questions.
Website saturation and popularity, or how much presence your skyscraper technique on search engines, can be analyzed through the number of pages of the site that are indexed by search engines (saturation) and how many backlinks the site has (popularity).
A few other blog posts I have about FIDM are: Graduation, and FIDM’s Beauty Study Tour recap, which I really should have mentioned in the video, but everything you need is there.

I'm considering FIDM's Beauty Marketing and Merchandising program. I will go with a prior degree in Business Administration-Management so I will be entering the Professional Designation program. My question to you is which campus is better and which location would you say have better opportunities with internships or job placement… My top two are the LA campus and the SF campus. I'm open to all FIDM locations though. I've been thinking, reading reviews, and researching for two years now about this! I just want to make the right choice. Which campuses would you suggest is best for a Beauty Marketing student with FIDM? I'm so sorry for writing a novel to you! π I would just love to have some insight from a real FIDM graduate.

LA! From what I know when I attended, people who attend elsewhere have to go to LA their 2nd year because that's where all of the beauty classes are! Since you'd be PD, you would only have 1 year to do, in L.A. I'm sure there are better teachers here as well!

Thank you so much for replying! You are a great help π also, is the career center reliable at FIDM? I just want to know how we can find a job after FIDM or what resources are available to us to assist our job search after graduating.
Olivia Frescura says
Glad I can help! I personally wasn't a huge fan of the career center- when I went they didn't even look at my resume, and then just printed out random jobs that they found on the portal. I think the online career network is a better choice. A lot of people get jobs with the companies that they interned with in their last quarters at FIDM. I can't vouch for any of that though, since I'm a year post-grad and don't have a job yet.

I'm a little unsure, but do you know how long it takes to ocmplete the PD program for beauty merchandising and marketing? Is it a year or 18 months? I've been trying to contact my FIDM advisor about this and no reply yet! :/
Olivia Frescura says
A year. I did my entire degree in 18 months! The regular AA is 18 months.

Hi Olivia! My name is Madison and I am interested in studying beauty merchandising and marketing or something similiar, however I don't know how to tell my mom because my mom wants me to be an engineer and go to school at the local college. Do you have any advice? I've been interested in beauty and fashion for a long time and everything you described sounds interesting, challenging, and like something I want to do. What kind of jobs are available after college, and what does the average salary look like?
Thanks xx
oliviafrescura says
Hi Madison! It's unfortunate that parents still pressure kids to go into fields they don't want to be in! The jobs available after attending FIDM are anywhere from marketing, product development, creating your own line, and more. If you're really interested in beauty but your mom still wants you to study something that she'd consider substantial, I'd recommend looking into cosmetic chemistry at different colleges. I'd do research on that if you're interested, because I can't help too much. FIDM is pretty much basic knowledge on all aspects of the beauty industry. If you're interested in fashion too I'd recommend product development or merchandise marketing major. I have no clue salary wise because it depends on the level and particular company, but I know entry level after FIDM, for example, starts at around $30,000 as an associate. Email me if you have any more questions!

hey just curious do you have a job?
Olivia Frescura says
Unfortunately I don't right now, although I've been applying for a long time!

Hi Olivia! how easy or how difficult the courses are in beauty merchandising and marketing?
Olivia Frescura says
I don't really think I can say, because it depends on everyone's personal abilities. If you're passionate about something, it shouldn't matter how easy or hard it is! But I will say I only struggled with maybe 25% of the classes, or less.

Hi, Olivia. A few quick questions…
1. I understand that it's easy to get accepted to this program. Besides incomplete portions of the process, what would disqualify a candidate?
2. Since you've been actively blogging, attending workshops, and networking, would you still say that the cost is worth it? The advisor makes it sound like its easy for grads to get jobs. I'm sure what you've been doing has provided quite an education in itself.
I don't mean to sound harsh or critical. This school charges a ton of money with no guarantee of employment. Student loans suck and having to pay them back sucks worse.
Olivia Frescura says
Hi Bren,
I really don't think anything disqualifies a candidate unless you fail your project maybe- Private schools like FIDM really don't care because they "need" the money- A lot of people drop out of FIDM, but you don't get a complete refund, so that's why it is beneficial for them to accept most people.
I think the education I got was very unique and a lot more than I already knew. I know FIT has a similar program that I believe is maybe a tad bit cheaper, so if I would have known that I would have just gone there.
Right now I'm a year out of grad with no job, but I know a lot of girls I went to school with that got great jobs from the get-go. I think it just depends on the person. I think education is always worth the investment if you work for it. No school can "guarantee" employment, because that is way out of their control.

Hi Oilivia,
I am looking into the beauty industry and merchandising major at FIDM for fall 2014. I am currently studying engineering (crazy, I know!) in India and will graduate in a year. Were there a lot of international students at FIDM and also who were older (like not right out of high school)? How hard is the acceptance for international students? I read a couple of blogs about students from all over the world attending FIDM and they didn't really talk about admissions that much. Thanks π
Olivia Frescura says
Hi! There are a lot of international students at FIDM. There are a handful of older ones, but it wasn't a majority of people. I'd say everyone is in their 20s for the most part. The international acceptance is just as easy as it is for people in the U.S., it just costs more! Make sure to talk to an admissions advisor frequently because they can answer all of your questions and are there to help you! Best of luck!
Guest 1 says
Thanks! I am in regular contact with my admissions counselor and she is very helpful. Also, do you know of any similar colleges or institutes offering this particular major? I noticed a similar one at FIT but that's way too expensive.
Olivia Frescura says
Great! I don't know of any similar schools, besides FIT. Email me if you have any more questions!

Hello Olivia,
First of all thank you for that video, it was truly helpful for me. I have two questions concerning Fidm. First, I'm french in an international school but i am not quite familiar with majors, degrees etc so my question is if it is possible to apply for the Beauty Industry and Merchandising program directly after graduating. And the second might seem strange but I heard a lot of things about L.A and I wanted to know if it was a safe city to study in..? Thank you very much!
Olivia Frescura says
Yes you can apply to the program whenever. It's just as safe as any other big city in the world!
